  • Consists of 3 parts:  Premises ID, animal ID, and Animal tracing
  • Premises- a location where livestock and or poultry are raised, held or boarded
  • Premises Registration is optional and if you register particitaion is optional
  • All you need to register is the name of the entity, appropriate contact person, street address/city/state/zip code, contact phone number, operation type (production unit, market, exhibition, slaughter plant, etc.), and alternative phone number
  • Animal ID is available for some but not all species, Premises ID is available for all species and animal tracing is in progress for all species
  • Registration forms available at state’s Dept of Ag website or by mailing or faxing their forms to their state director
  • Animal ID is a uniform numbering system
  • The Animal ID Number is unique and stays with the animal for the animal’s life
  • the ID can track the animal from its birthplace from slaughter and any stockyards in between
  • animals can be Identified either as individuals or as a group
  • You get access to markets after an outbreak, if you are not linked to an affected area.
  • Is not federally mandated
  • Chances are that this will be implemented by the industry rather than the gov’t
  • The gov’t does not want to register pets, just livestock
  • You can reach the USDA for comments by sending emails to animalidcomments@aphis.usda.gov
  • USDA protects registries personal info
